Golf Gps–a Golf GPS program written in C# for Windows Mobile 6. Uses GPS data from either a built in receiver, or from say a bluetooth device to give you the distance to Front, Middle and Back of the green. FantasyBasketball–Each year, there are a group of us that get together and draft players out of the NCAA tournament, and like Fantasy Football, we keep score (Points, Rebounds, Assists). A spreadsheet was used for several years, and finally I got sick of guessing where I stood, so I wrote this. Written in C#, it will get the stats from ESPN in near realtime. It then calculates all the scores for each person’s team, then sorts it out into tons of information, writes it all to HTML (with templates) and uploads to a web server. Program not released yet, and since the Stats are pulled from espn, not sure if I can legally. We did a Big12 Version of the draft this year!
ShapyBall–C# demo game for one of my programming classes with an AI. Need to make this into a silverlight project, would be fun online!
GudenGolfManager–Golf Tournament Management suite. Written in C#.
GudenTextToSpeech–Written for a special education teacher that wanted something simple to use in class, and he loved it. Written in C# using the Microsoft SAM engine, simple, easy, and effective. Hi, I just have a question about setting up golf GPS. I have an omnia and I am unable to get a fix using your app. I was wondering if I had to set my GPS settings to a specific com port and baud rate to get it to work with your app.

I have the same question as Richard did on 12/28/08. GolfGPS doesn’t seem to have any options to set the COM port or baud rate, so it doesn’t see my Compact Flash GPS that I use with my iPaq hx2490b (WM5) (it is not a question of getting a fix, it doesn’t even turn the GPS on). Is the software supposed to find the GPS automatically, or does it assume a specific port? The CF GPS is COM6 on this device.
It looks like a great concept, and I already made a course, but now I’d love to be able to try it.

After reading the readme (duh), I noticed you used the Windows GPS driver. Based on that hint, I realized I had to use the GPS Control Panel to allow Windows to manage the GPS port. Works great now, although I generally don’t like to use this feature because it seems to be flakey with some software. Thanks for the cool software.
David, try the GPSInfo program I have, it uses both the windows driver, and one that I created where you can specify port and baud rates. Let me know if it works good for you, as I am planning on adding it to the golf program. I wrote the info program to test it. In WM5, the windows driver is a bit flakey, but in wm6, it is pretty darn good.

Your golfGPS is great – have been using it on WinMo 6.1 for a while now, but I’m in the process of moving across to an Android phone.
I don’t suppose you have any plans to develop golfGPS on the android platform do you?!
I don’t have access to an Android phone to test with, so not for right now. But, the cool thing is, unless your trading your old phone in, golfGPS will still work without cell service. You will just have to put the courses on manually using activesync, but it doesn’t require a data connection, and GPS is free!

Hi Gudy,
I have tested further and it seems GolfGPS can work with WinMobile devices that has a built-in GPS (like Asus P750, A696), but not ones connected with bluetooth GPS module. The program failed to recognize the comm port and module. The GPS Info program also behave the same way. Please help.
Hey Ee,
It will work with a bluetooth GPS, but it does take some playing with to get it up and running. I have also noticed that Windows Mobile 5 is hit and miss, but 6 should work just fine. Make sure that your GPS settings are so Windows will control GPS settings, and you have the correct GPS port set for the hardware input. The output should be set to none if I remember correctly. Let me know if you need more help.

@Reza–I might be able to convert them, could you send me one of them to support@gudensoft.com? KML is xml, so the data should be in plain text, I would just need to write a script to take that data and put into my format.

Great program.
A nice addition would be adding the ability to determine the distance to the flag sticks (or marker boards) an a driving range. Possibly letting the person “survey” the distance as they would the actual course.
Love the golfgps..tried golflogix and it consumed all data time I had on my phone before I even got to use the 24 hour trial….this one rocks. Only had one problem. Created a course and site wouldn’t allow me to download it. It goes straight to an error page that says:
Download Failed
The error message is: Requested file is not available
Phil–I don’t have it in front of me right now, but I think it is in there, look under the menu for driving range or extra points.
Rodney–I will look into it. I think it is a permission issue. When I moved sites, the owner of the folder was changed to the account that moved the folder, not the service account. I will get that changed. Thanks for letting me know!
